Galicia - Housesit
This long awaited housesit turned out to be a ‘Paradise Found’ at the end of a long hot ride across the country. We were met by Sandy and Mike, the 3 dogs (Luis, Amigo and Taiga) and the most amazing house on a lake - remote, peaceful, paradise.
Whilst at the sit we didn’t like to go too far away and leave the dogs too long but we found plenty to do in the area! Even the dog walk out of the front gate was pretty spectacular.
Day 1 we needed some shopping so we went ‘the long way around’ - caught a small ferry across the reservoir, did a loop of the penisular on the other side (that we see from our verandah) and then onto the supermarket for supplies.
The following day we went a little further to the Sil Canyon (about 150kms each way). It was spectular, canyons and hiking trails to explore but we were restricted both by the heat with our bike gear on and also the distance from the house on the twisty mountain roads made it already a long day out.
The temperatures kept going up over the weekend so we stayed closer to home and went to see a nearby waterfall and to visit the local nautical club where you can rent kayak, paddle boats and go water skiing. The was a cafe there and the Saturday fiesta crowd were in full swing.
Another bigger day out was to Santiago de Compostela - of the end of the pilgrimage ‘Camino de Santiago’ fame! The main square were the Cathedral was, was packed with jubilant pilgrims enjoying reaching the end of their walk/cycle.
We also visited Ponteverde on the west coast, another hour or so ride on amazing roads.
