2022 - Girona & Tossa del Mar

We arrived in Barcelona New Years Day January 1, 2022.

January 6th in Spain is a festive holiday, a family day for all to celebrate the Three Kings celebrations. The three kings (or wise men) perform the same role as Santa Claus at Christmas in Spain, so on the evening of the 5th children leave a cleaned pair of shoes outside their doors for the nocturnal visitors to fill with gifts. So we opted to have a day off from the home and life organising in new continent (phones, bank accounts, furniture, endless official paperwork) and headed off on a day trip north, to Girona and Tossa del Mar approximately 90 minutes north.

Cold but stunning weather we headed for the restored walled city ramparts of the old city to see the snow capped Pyrenees in the back drop. After walking the ramparts, enjoying a coffee at the foot of the cathedral we headed to Tossa del Mar for a late lunch.

Gunned fortress headland at Tossa del Mar

Another stunning location - empty beach and gunned fortress style headland. A great start to our spanish travels.
