Lorton, Lake District - Housesit

Turned up at the housesit and immediately did quick turnaround as Cathy, homeowner took us down to the fishing boat with today’s catch, to buy dinner. Had an awesome evening out in the garden, glorious views, fresh catch and great chat with the homeowners, Cathy and Nigel.

Immediately took to Charlie the cross collie/spaniel although we were advised to be cautious due to some behavioural issues. FIrst couple of days went really well with great weather and some great exploratory hikes in the local area.

Unfortunately after that the weather was pretty terrible for the whole 2 weeks we were there. We got out a did a few hikes and had one good motorcycle ride up Honiston Pass.

The road back south from the Lakes was via the Lancashire Dales and was an absolute stunner! I went to visit an elderly relative in York before heading to Coventry to stay the weekend with my brother. Aunty Evelyn (Mum’s best friend) at 93 is fit as a fiddle and the sandwiches and copious cups of tea were just what I needed after a long ride - and another couple of hundred kms to go with the weather closing in.

Once at brother Dave’s we had a great night out and promptly set off the next day - albeit this time in his car - to do another 500kms round trip to North Wales to see our Aunty Sheila, Mum’s sister. What a brilliant time, so fabulous to see family after these difficult few years.
